"This project is a great benefit for the college and the community."
Breaking News
As the Daily Breeze reported on April 16, the RPV Planning Commission seems inclined to approve most of the Marymount College Campus Improvement Plan, but split over whether to approve the proposed dormitories.
Despite overwhelming community support presented in the form of hundreds of letters and public testimony for the campus plan, the RPV Planning Commission appeared split at the April 14th hearing over approving plans to build dormitories.
We expect the final vote will occur at the hearing scheduled for Tuesday, May 26.
Dear Friends:
Thank you for visiting the Marymount College Campus Improvement website. For nearly ten years, Marymount College has worked with RPV residents to create a project that allows the College to modernize its campus while protecting the quality of life for nearby residents. The Final Environmental Impact Report that was released last Fall 2008 reflects the hard work that balances the College needs with the community interests.
We are finally into the final stage of the Planning Commission’s public process. We are grateful to the hundreds of supporters we have gained along the way. We are also proud that the vast majority of RPV residents support the College’s Campus Improvement Plan.
Despite the split decision by commissioners at Tuesday’s RPV Planning Commission hearing, we are hopeful that the Commission and, if necessary, the RPV City Council, will ultimately side with the opinion of most RPV residents that the campus improvement plan will be a benefit to all and support its approval.
Here on our website, you will find the essentials of the College’s improvement plan, including the Final EIR and other public documents that have been widely circulated over the many months of this process.
For your convenience, we have also provided a easy way for you to convey your support to the members of the RPV Planning Commission and City Council. Simply click on our SUPPORT US tab at the top of the page and take 2 minutes to fill out the form and submit.
The Final EIR shows that the College can fully mitigate all potential project impacts – such as traffic, noise, geology and soil issues. In other words, the EIR indicates that our plans are compatible with the neighborhood and will provide additional benefits to Rancho Palos Verdes as a whole.
As we come to the conclusion of this process, we encourage you to take the time to express your ongoing support for the Marymount Campus Improvement Plan to the RPV Planning Commission and the RPV City Council.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael S. Brophy
